Appearance
For someone of Sia’s profession, she doesn’t look all that impressive. She stands at just under five-and-a-half feet and could be described as stocky at best; rather than the supple curves of womanhood, puberty instead graced Sia with an aptitude for building muscle and a few inches of extra height. From far away she has the build of a man and from far away she is often mistaken as one. She’s as straight as a board and almost as flat; the most remarkable feature about her is...the fact that up close she’s actually a woman.
Really, though, she can be striking to behold. Her face is a mix of babyish and predatory, complete with narrow chin, chubby cheeks, and a high forehead. Her slim eyes are gray and often flat, while her slim mouth has so far never been seen in a genuine smile. Scars mar her pale skin at random intervals, obtained from various knife fights or times she tried to jump a wall and fell on her face on the other side. It’s not uncommon to see her smudged with dirt or mottled with bruises in varyious stages of healing. Her black hair is cropped short in the back (it looks like she did it herself with a dull knife and no mirror) while her bangs hang down to her chin; for convenience sake they’re usually pinned back with bobby pins. If anyone were to think her beautiful, or even attractive, it wouldn't be due to society's standard conventions of appearance- Sia's allure stems from her fierce, almost predatory, looks. She's may not be a swan, but she is most certainly a hawk.
Her off-duty clothes are usually some mix of leather, cotton, and denim in varying stages of brown, black, dull gray, or dark blue. For the sake of her job she's usually armed with a few hidden knives (which also tend to get used in the field for various cutting tasks), and she's developed a talent for throwing them. Sia usually resorts to using her Pokémon to battle, and to help her work, but sometimes she has no choice but to resort to blades. She currently petitioning the higher-ups to let her have at least one firearm, though thus far she's been unsuccessful.
Personality
Sia the Ranger doesn’t like to admit weakness. Or when she’s wrong. Sia has always taught herself what she felt she needed to know, and the simple fact that she’s actually succeeding enough to support herself has done wonders for her ego. Her quick-to-rise temper is extremely sensitive when it comes to her personal pride, and it’s most definitely what gets her into the most trouble. If you what to make sure she comes around again (for whatever reason), insult her. She’ll be back to exact some sort of revenge later. Her Ranger-related skills are rather good for someone her age, although to say she’s already an expert would be a stretch. She simply learns extremely well and very quickly, and she can do her job well enough to be considered a success among the Rangers.
Overall Sia is not a pleasant person to be around. She’s got an attitude, hates authority, and looks down on most people; she tolerates being ordered around by her superiors simply because she's alone in the field and can therefore finish her tasks however she pleases (which may or may not be considered legal all of the time). It doesn’t matter who you are- Sia will find a reason to make you look bad so she can validate why she is supremely awesome. All the better if she’s actually able to make you look bad, too. The woman gets angry at the drop of a hat and will resort to physical violence with startling swiftness, but at the same time she has the patience of a saint. Well, she does when it comes to her job. She could work all day to free a Pokémon from a barbed wire fence, but if she orders a meal it damn well better get to her with haste. Insert sassy finger snap here.
She has the capability to be a quiet, thoughtful person, but please, like you could get that close to her. Sia doesn’t like people. She doesn’t like half of the Pokémon she comes across, although she's incapable of being cruel to them and will help any creature in need, even while simultaneously calling it names (some suspect this is to keep up her "tough girl" outer image). Sia doesn’t love- she sleeps with. Sia doesn’t do something for another person unless she thinks it could benefit her in the future or if it's to save/help a Pokémon. Almost everything she does for herself is geared towards self-preservation; in this department the Ranger can be a genius, really. She’s got a sharp sense of street smarts, that’s for certain, and she knows enough academics to help her get by. Sia is a jack of all trades and a master of none sort of woman, but she can claim talent with what she does know.
History
Sia grew up the youngest of two in Saint Port Kitts, enjoying the relative wealth and security afforded to the family of a successful police officer and a shop owner (Missi sold herbs and herbalist remedies). As a child she helped her mother and elder sister around the store, doing basic chores in return for allowance money; unlike her sister, Sia never spent her money wisely. It always went towards sweets or games, not towards the responsible things like Pokémon or future schooling.
From an early age Sia had a rebellious streak. Ara was always well-behaved and obedient, but Sia got into trouble left and right. She fought with boys, went places she wasn't supposed to, and left the city limits far more often than her parents liked. For all of her trouble-making, it became clear to her parents that the girl had restless feet. She wanted to travel, and she spent her time outside of the city exploring the wilds, pretending she was a traveler. It was dangerous for a child, though, and despite their best efforts her parents couldn't keep her in the city if she didn't want to stay there. And so Missi and Luke Bronzewell bought Sia her first Pokémon when she was 9, a young Ponyta colt with a wild streak similar to hers. They thought that the Pokémon's stubbornness would encourage Sia to train it and grow into a more responsible young woman.
They were only partially right.
Sia trained that Ponyta, alright. She trained him to obey her through spoken commands, whistles, and even hand signals. She trained him to accept no rider but her, and to cause distractions if she wanted to slip away from the police. The rebellious colt had seen a kindred spirit in Sia, and instead of helping her change for the better, the Pokémon ended up aiding her cause instead. He provided her means to go further and travel more quickly, and soon Luke was forced to assign his own Pokémon, a veteran Arcanine, as the girl's chaperone.
The bond between the two did alter Sia, though, so her newfound partner wasn't a completely bad influence. He gave her a love of Pokémon and an understanding of non-human creatures, and it's quite possible that without him, Sia would have turned to lawlessness instead of the Rangers. When Luke was severely injured on the job around Sia's 15th birthday, it was the last nudge the young woman needed. Her father survived, although he was forced to retire in his condition, and Sia officially enrolled in the Ranger Academy. Even there she caused problems, getting into fights and talking back to the teachers, but no one could say she lacked creativity. From the beginning Sia showed a knack for thinking outside of the box and coming up with creative solutions to dilemmas, even if some of them stemmed from questionable morality (she had no qualms potentially injuring Pokémon thieves, for example). Paired with the undeniable bond and synchronicity with her Ponyta, Sia graduated with the rest of her class and was shoveled off to her beginning posts almost immediately.
For all the woman seems to have problems being told what to do, she was happy enough accepting orders from those she respected as superiors. She always chose to work alone (sometimes Sia had to grudgingly accept a human partner), mostly so she could finish the task how she saw fit. She saved her money and scrimped on expenses until she could buy a small, run-down cabin in Fallow Forest. The Ranger spent years fixing the place up and adding a few additional structures- a stable, primarily), though thanks to an ever-changing job she doesn't stay there as often as she'd like.
At least, for all of her rebellious ways, Sia can say she makes her parents proud.

(Taken from my other Pokémon site, on which I also use a version of this character xP)
She'd watched this house for a long time, longer than she'd planned. At first the goal had been the little jewelry box in the lady's bedroom, in plain view through the second-floor window if Sia hid on a neighboring roof. She knew that box contained at least one pearl necklace and a necklace of sapphire, both of which would buy food for a month or maybe some new blades. It was quite a haul, if she could figure out how to get into that room.
They would be leaving this evening for a show; they did every week on this day, and she'd get a chance to enter through the larder window. From there it would be relatively simple. This house just barely qualified as middle class and as such they only had a few servants. They must think they're safe, living right on the main street. Sia thought to herself, shifting her weight into a more comfortable position. If she wanted to guarantee a painless job she needed to wait here until the couple left- so basically hours- and that meant holing up under this corner of roof and hoping she was swathed enough in shadows to go unseen.
Thankfully she had the patience for this sort of thing. So she sat and waited, her silver eyes focused on every entrance to the house until she saw candles being blown out and people shuffling about. The lord and lady of the household departed, and Sia stretched her legs for the first time in hours. Getting off of her roof, across the street, and up to her target was easy. Getting inside the larder window was easy- thank the stars she learned how to pick locks- and once she passed through the dark storage room and into the empty kitchen, the thief was already feeling home free.
She'd made it to the stairs when the howling began.
The commotion was entirely unexpected, and for a brief moment Sia felt a wave of horror drench her. She'd made a rookie mistake and neglected to look for Pokémon inside the walls, and now that mistake was launching itself at her through the air. The thief cursed and nearly fell backwards, but in the end managed to duck the attack and dart into a study. Pokeball, Pokeball, every one of these animals had a Pokeball-
The wind at her back made her duck again, though this miss was much closer. She hit a stroke of luck the next second, and a wild grin broke out over her face when her eyes landed on a Pokeball. That had to be what she was looking for. Sia threw her weight forward and snatched it up, whirling and pressing the button in one swift motion. Red light shot forward and connected with the offending Pokémon, freezing it in place before sucking it into the ball's depths. Almost immediately the shouts and footsteps from servants reached Sia's ears, and she realized that her dreams for that jewelry box were lost. It was time to beat it and hope she could do something with this Pokémon later. Maybe she could sell it, who knew.
"Just you wait until I open this up again." The woman growled, glaring at her "prize," before she turned and made a hasty retreat.
