Appearance
elegant, pale, well-dressed, aristocratic, chestnut hair, hazel eyes
Elizabeth is a slightly built girl with a naturally pale complexion. Her overall appearance is one of high breeding and aristocratic delicacy, but as she is no longer in the cool, dark home her parents have in Oberon Town, she is becoming less well groomed and slightly more tanned, ruffled and ordinary looking. She still dresses in finery, her parents having provided her with plenty of clothing and money for supplies, but her travels have left her fine garments a bit frayed at the edges. She often wears expensive 1960s style dresses with the prim, curved dolly collar, and even when it is very hot outside she is covered shoulder to wrist with long sleeves and waist to thigh in opaque tights.
Elizabeth is quite pretty in a rather waifish, statue-like way, her thick chestnut hair naturally wavy and long, though she usually keeps it twirled up in neat half-buns. Her eyes are a matching hazel, a peculiar shade which appears to shift in hue depending on the light. She is not tall, standing around 5'3, but she may yet have a couple of inches to grow before she reaches full height. Her limbs are proportionally long, though, and she has spindly long legs and bony elbows. Her weight is always kept low both by a naturally high metabolism and a lack of interest in food, so Elizabeth has a fairly boyish figure and a willowy frame. Her expression often borders on cold and detached, her early upbringing leaving her with a stoic external repression of her internal feelings, and it is difficult to tell what she is thinking from her outward appearance.
Personality
stoic, determined, brave, repressed, isolated, resentful, cautious, sly
Elizabeth has been instilled with a stiff upper lip mentality since birth, and because of that she utterly refuses to show any sign of weakness. She is gritty, stony and steadfast, allowing no one else to look out for her because she thinks she doesn't need it. Left in the care of a governess as a child, she is prim and proper as well as very well spoken, but she is also fairly cold and detached from other people her age. She has few friends and keeps herself to herself, though one suspects that deep down she is desperately in need of some kind of emotional contact to combat the repression of her childhood.
By nature Elizabeth is wary and cautious, never throwing herself into anything before she knows exactly where she'll land. She is surprisingly resourceful for someone who had been raised in privilege, and she is admirably self-sufficient. However, being waited on hand and foot has left her with a weaker wilderness survival sense and a below average ability to fend for herself, which makes her new trainer life difficult at times. Sleeping rough, travelling long distances and battling hard weather are the biggest challenges for Elizabeth, who is unused to such discomfort. She is fiercely determined, however, and refuses to give up even when things are deeply unpleasant. She is also a brilliant strategist and has been highly trained in the art of battle, which is her strongest area.
History
Elizabeth Nightingale was born into privilege and wealth as the eldest daughter of Charles and Helene Nightingale, rich property developers living in a large house in Oberon Town. Her mother was only eighteen when she married her father, a man nine years her senior, and she was pregnant within a month of marriage. Their first son was born in the October of that year, a boy whom they named Leo. Elizabeth's father, an old-fashioned man still living as if it were the 1950s, was very pleased to have a male heir to his estate already, and in his view Helene's wifely duty was essentially already fulfilled. However, a few years later Charles wanted a second son to help with the business, so he and his wife tried for more children, but unfortunately for him, no sons were forthcoming and they had three daughters in a row, Elizabeth, Charlotte and Anna.
The household was run in an antiquated aristocratic manner. The children were left to the care of household staff, only seeing their parents on formal occasions and for meals. They were left to amuse themselves most of the time, though Leo quickly grew too old for such games and Charles hauled him into learning his business as soon as he was old enough to read and write. As a result, Elizabeth was left alone for much of the time during her early childhood since Charlotte was an infant while Leo wasn't around. When she turned six, however, Charles had been influenced by an even more affluent friend of his whose son and daughter were on Pokémon journeys and were rising stars in the trainer scene. Thus Charles decided that a better course of action would be to occupy his daughters with Pokémon and send them off for character building experiences. He had Elizabeth undergo intensive, top class education in Pokémon theory, strategy and training, set on the idea of her becoming a master trainer in the region.
As a result, Elizabeth's childhood was consumed by her training, which left no room for play. Her teachers were hugely strict and demanding, and her education was gruelling, challenging and exhausting. She became a master at type advantages and evolution types before she hit puberty, and her head was full of only Pokémon knowledge. Charlotte, on the other hand, did not join the school until she was eight, and hated it so much she cried constantly and learnt nothing, such that the educators despaired and sent her home in disgrace. Elizabeth carried on, her mind so indoctrinated towards the goal of becoming a Pokémon master that she didn't think of much else. In the meantime, Leo had grown sick of being bullied and controlled by his father and went to school in Ithiel City, before going on to university outside Caligo. Charlotte and Anna remained at home.
At fifteen, Elizabeth was deemed ready to leave the school and went back home briefly. Her father, with whom she had never had any real relationship, severely ordered her to choose a team of six Pokémon from the family supplier, but Elizabeth was resolute. She did not wish to have Pokémon bestowed upon her by her family, nor did she want ready-made champions. Her father was angry, calling her ungrateful for the money he had poured into her training. Sullenly Elizabeth was made to take her starter, which proved quickly to be a poor match for her. The Beldum was selected for its high power and potential, but it did not recognise her as its rightful trainer and the two had a disharmonious relationship. Charles, annoyed by her obstinacy, told her to either go out and prove she could catch her own strong Pokémon within two days, or to take the other five provided for her.
Elizabeth then went out in a desperate search for Pokémon to prove herself, searching high and low on the island. However, she had great difficulty controlling the Beldum and as a result could not weaken those that she found in order to catch them. The two days passed quickly in a storm of frustration for her, and in the end she had to trail home having caught only two Pokémon, a small Taillow and, to her great shame, a Magikarp. Elizabeth's father roared with laughter when she reluctantly presented her team to him, and she burned with embarrassment as he derided her abilities, declaring her eight years of study a complete waste of his money.
With that, he dismissed her, and Elizabeth was left to take her small team and go without any fanfare or any additional help from her family. Her mother intervened at the last minute to tell her not to go and that she wasn't ready and her father didn't mean what he said, but Elizabeth knew she didn't want to stay in Oberon any longer. She left home and set off on her Pokémon journey since she had no other prospects, what with her father's distaste for his daughters.
Three months later, she's scraping by, still on her own.
Other
- Elizabeth is a horrible cook. Like, truly terrible. She cannot cook. She's never had to in the past, so she can barely feed herself while travelling.
- She doesn't get along with her Beldum, but she is very defensive about her Taillow and Magikarp as she loves them fiercely because they were the product of her own hard work.
- Elizabeth has a lot of money but it's running out fast since her father isn't providing anything and she's been flying solo for a while.

A bellow of unkind laughter reverberated in the high-ceilinged, echoey front hall. Elizabeth's cheeks burned, her hands hanging by her sides as she clutched the empty Pokéballs.
"A pathetic runt of a bird and a fish, Elizabeth?" her father sneered, eyeing the two forlorn Pokémon huddled together on the floor. "This is what you call catching your own Pokémon?" He looked at his eldest daughter with disdain. "My money was misplaced in sending her to that school, Helene" he snorted, turning to leave. Tears pricking her eyes, Elizabeth snatched up her Pokémon and headed for the front door.
Helene watched her eldest daughter with a stone-faced steadiness, seemingly unaffected by the scene before her. "Elizabeth." she said, and Elizabeth faltered for a moment, her hand frozen on the doorknob. "He does not mean his unkind words. You are simply not ready to travel alone. Come back inside, child; Charlotte and Anna are playing upstairs."
Elizabeth's expression hardened.
"No."
