Appearance
Marco's well known for his most striking feature, his large afro. He used to take care of his hair but after spending so much time living in the wild it became too much of a hassle to take care of and he let it grow out. Now the ball of brown locks has grown on him and he refuses to cut it. He has tan skin, the norm for everyone in his family, maybe he got his tan from his father who, like him, spent lots of time out in the wild with Pokémon. His eyes are a piercing green and his right eye is covered by his hair majority of the time.
These features give him the "wild" style that one could only expect from someone who spent the last two years as a nomadic traveler. As for his attire, Marco prefers clothes that are comfortable and so his outfits mostly consists of beanies, t-shirts, a lot of sleeveless shirts, cargo shorts, and his favorite type of footwear, sandals. He also commonly goes around shirtless on the hotter days. On those hot days, one can see his shark tooth necklace that got from a Sharpedo, he usually has it tucked into his shirt.
Personality
Despite Marco's beach bum looks he is, in actually, quite intelligent and experienced in the field of relations between Pokémon and humans. He lived as a nomadic traveler for two years of his life in order to build relationships with Pokémon and to better understand them. Because of his journey he began to care much more about Pokémon than he did originally, he began to see them as equals. Simply put, he is very protective over weaker Pokémon and has also developed an ability to understand Pokémon vocal patterns, not as if he can understand their each and every word but he can accurately depict what a Pokémon is trying to say.
Also as a result of his nomadic travels, Marco believes that a strong mind should be balanced by a strong body, so he keeps himself physically fit with regular exercise such as jogging every morning and eating healthy. Any Pokémon that accompanies him should be prepared to be put through the same physical training.
As for when dealing with other people, Marco is very protective and isn't afraid to defend an innocent civilian from the tyranny of team plasma. In fact, it is the very reason that he came to Anrui in the first place. He assists anyone he can as well as educates the younger children on relations with Pokémon.
Everyone has flaws, and Marco is no exception. First off, he tends to overdo his physical training and lands himself stuck on bed rest. Another one of his tendencies is that he is a little overprotective and tries to protect anyone that he deems to be in need which can often land him into the "I bit off more than I can chew" situation.
History
Marco hails from Fortree City in the Hoenn Region. Fortree, also known as, "The Treetop City that Frolics with Nature." is a city that was built to blend in with nature, the residents, including his own family, lived in treehouses and got around on a system of rope bridges. The city's residents were very close to the wild and thus, learned to take care of their bodies. Marco's story started when he turned fifteen and it was his turn to partake in the family tradition.
When every child in his family reached the age of fifteen they embarked on a journey to build relationships with Pokémon. Though, unlike the journey other trainers normally embarked on, this journey was not about owning, training, or battling Pokémon. It was about living in the wild with Pokémon so that one could truly understand them better.
Marco was very excited for his journey when he first set out, he headed from Fortree and began to explore the wilderness. The first few months were harsh as he adjusted to the wild, there were cold nights and brutal storms but it seemed that every time that he wanted to give up and return home, the wild Pokémon were there to assist him.
After a year in the wild, he had well adjusted to the wilderness, he found it much easier to befriend wild Pokémon and often befriended tribes of wild Pokémon and lived with them. In these tribes he saw how Pokémon always worked together and supported each other, they didn't fight, because of this he began to have doubts about Pokémon training. This was until he made a stop in Lilicove City and watched a Pokémon battle for the first time, he could see the bond in between the each trainer and their Pokémon. They worked together just like the Pokémon in their tribes did, at that point in his mind Pokémon battling wasn't forcing the Pokémon to use their abilities to harm each other, but a friendly way to test their abilities while building the bond between trainer and Pokémon.
Though, his journey was cut short shortly after his seventeenth birthday after recieving news about the Black Jokers and the Caligo Region. They stole Pokémon from other trainers, their goal was still unknown, but it was rumored to be something big. Stealing a Pokémon would be the equivalent of kidnapping a child from its family, then he heard about the detective who was investigating the reborn crime syndicate and he quickly departed to the Caligo region to assist in the investigation.

The other trainer didn't say anything, but he sent out his Pokémon. Marco shrugged, he figured that it meant that he agreed to his terms. The trainer sent out a Charmander. He had never battled against one before, well, there was a first time for everything. Marco pulled a pokeball and tossed it. The ball popped open, releasing his first Pokémon onto the grassy field. He decided to go with what he usually used as his first Pokémon.
The red silhouette around his Pokémon faded, revealing his first Pokémon, Bouffalant. Marco had raised his Bouffalant since it was a newborn. Because of this, the two shared quite a tight bond. He nodded, he was interested to see how it would do against a Charmander. Bojangles pawed the grass with his hooves. He loved this grass, it felt so much better under his hooves than the concrete back in Hyo.
"I'll start it off, okay? Bojangles, use leer and aerial ace."
Bojangles snorted, then charged with great speed toward the fire type. While he charged he stared the Pokémon down, not daring to look in any other direction. He had his eyes focused on the fire type as he charged toward it. Marco nodded, his normal type looked like it was ready to battle today.
