PROFESSOR LABERNUM'S LABORATORY
"(if the eukaryotes... phagotropic hypothesis...
proteobacterial endosymbiont)... what do you want?"
Normal Pokémon research facilities are clean, polished, state-of-the-art buildings. However, like all things in Corsair Cove, Professor Labernum's is not. Instead, her lab is a small, old, leaky former-residential building with uniform washed out brickwork, small, slit-like windows with bars on the outside and a black-painted door. A small, wonky sign over the entrance reads "Prof. D. Labernum, Pokémon expert" and is accompanied by her personal symbol, a Seviper coiled around a thin upright rod - this symbol is patently her own and if seen anywhere else can be assumed to either be unlawfully used or related to Labernum's lab.
Inside is little better, what with the unpolished grey tiles, weirdly-stained walls and various scorched patches all over the ceiling and wallpaper. There are various patches of who-knows-what on the tiling too, and it doesn't look like anyone's tried to clean up in a long time. The machinery inside is old, huge and noisy, generating a constant mechanical thrum day and night. Professor Labernum rarely ventures out and is always buried in weird, wild and radical experiments, her (almost) white lab coat stained and torn most of the time. She has bushy brown hair, cat-like green eyes and a habit of muttering to herself. She is also several months pregnant.
However, appearances and sarcastic remarks aside, the Professor is arguably the most brilliant mind in the region when it comes to Pokémon. Her knowledge is second to none, not even Professor Laurel in Lacewing Town, and her collection is vast and impressive. She's not friendly, charming or approachable, and her wolfish grin carries more than a touch of malignance, but she'll set up starter Pokémon for the trainers who come to visit her no problem. And really, compared to the other violent rogues and scoundrels in Corsair Cove, Labernum is one of the most civilised and pleasant.
