Level 6 | Level 7 | Level 8 |
Once upon a time there was a brilliant young man; so brilliant that people called him a genius and told him he should be doing amazing jobs in science, government or medicine. So that's what he did. He climbed up and up in his chosen field, and soon he was zooming around the world working on groundbreaking projects, earning wads of money and meeting every flashy person there was to meet. He also had a young fiancée, who was a sweet-faced girl named Jessica from his hometown. He planned to marry her, but every time the two of them started to set a date for their wedding, something from work came up. The man started to lose sight of what he considered most important. He forgot to cherish Jessica, and sure enough, she got tired of being forgotten and left him.
That man was called Barnaby Fitzwalter. After he lost the woman he loved, Barnaby realised his life was going in the wrong direction. For all his brilliance, he just hadn't been seeing what it was that really made him happy, and he didn't realise until it was too late. He knew he was doing the wrong thing with his life then, but he didn't know what else to do - until one day, he walked into a Pokéball shop thinking it was the Pokémon Centre and in it he saw a man working on a special new ball, plated in silver and etched with somebody's initials.
The next day, Barnaby Fitzwalter quit his job, did a course in Pokéball craft and focused all his intelligence in making new, innovative and unique Pokéballs. Some people said it was a waste of a brilliant mind, but others saw that Barnaby was finally contented. He always hoped Jessica would come back one day and never found anyone else, but it's been thirty years now. So he lives alone, running his little Pokéball shop and selling extraordinary devices to worthy trainers, hoping to make amends for the neglect that cost him his fiancée.

[spoiler=Clifford - Shop Owner]
The little shop behind the gym is home to the finest Fire-type supplier in all... well, in all Ithiel. Not least because it's the only one. But Clifford, the rather quirky, pink-haired young man who runs the place, is certainly a keen owner. If by owner one means "insane pyromaniac". He's mostly harmless, but he does have an alarming penchant for setting things alight and owns a hyperactive Houndour, so it's best to be on your guard if you want to browse in the shop.
Clifford sells a number of fiery or volcanic things, the most interesting of which are his hand-caught or personally-reared Fire-type Pokémon. Some of them are bog standard Fire-types that can be caught just twenty feet away in Volcano Cave, but others are specials that he's managed to get a hold of from other areas. He's also a keen, if manic, egg breeder, although he doesn't put any up for sale. Maybe if you did something for him he'd be more likely to part with one?

Volcano Cave is the name of the main cavern in a string of caves dotted about Mount Siria. Some are further from Ithiel City than others, and these ones are generally considered more dangerous than the closer ones which are monitored by the Cole family. Trainers are advised to go at their own risk.
The caves are deep, hot and often full of Pokémon, meaning that they are an ideal place for trainers looking either to train or to catch new ones. They can be quite confusing if you don't know where to go, so a shrewd old woman named Tilda has set up a Volcano Cave tour, offering to guide trainers to the best caves for a small fee. She also sells Lava Cookies, a special baked treat from her hometown in the Hoenn region.

Miss Clark is passionate for Pokémon and, with her chic good looks and charismatic style, some people are attracted to the school for less than educational reasons. The Daycare is a lovely little white building near an enormous old tree that almost conceals the place. It is carefully-tended with a wrought iron gate and a pebbly path all the way up to the little ivy-covered black door. There is a picture of a cheerful Pichu engraved above the door.
Founded some forty years ago by a young, Pokémon-mad couple, Martin and Helen McCoy, the site is a family-owned business where trainers can leave their beloved Pokémon in the McCoys' capable hands in order to complement their own training. The Daycare is now run by the original Mr and Mrs McCoy's son, James, a wiry, red-headed twenty-two year old, and his chirpy girlfriend, Isabel West (this character may be adopted), a blonde optimist with a sunny disposition.
The pair are professionals who can teach all kinds of Pokémon a great deal, which makes their business a popular one with visiting trainers. Even more interestingly, though, is their expertise with egg breeding. The McCoys know just how to encourage the natural process and, for a fee, trainers may leave a pair of compatible Pokémon in an attempt to have their Pokémon produce offspring. Don't worry, though: the duo are kindly folk and will only charge for successful breedings!

A young fossil expert, Dr Theresa Taylor-Ellis is outspoken and highly intelligent and won't put up with any nonsense, so if you're looking to get on her good side don't ask stupid questions and try to use a few six syllable words. She doesn't battle because she considers such things beneath her academic prowess, but she has a Luxray who keeps an eye on things with her. Dr Taylor-Ellis is not one to dilly-dally with conspiracy theories and other disturbances to her crucial research into the dietary habits of ancient Pikachu ancestors.

Dermot is a junior museum worker, though he knows virtually everything there is to know about both archaeological matters and the museum's exhibits. He's utterly uncharming and socially difficult, and he's generally only out for himself so he won't help anyone from the goodness of his heart. He doesn't like doing favours for people - unless, of course, it happens to be a certain auburn-haired palaeontologist (infatuation doesn't even begin to cover it). However, Dermot's been at the museum for nearly as long as Dr Taylor-Ellis, and he too used to know Professor Clancey.
